Wine Reception |  5:45 p.m.
Program  |  7 p.m.

Please join the Senior Board of Children's Hospital Foundation for the 7th Annual Words & Wisdom event as singer-songwriter Ashley Campbell celebrates the healing power of music.

Music is feeling. It is a completely different language. It reaches the depths of the soul and is processed by our brains in a much deeper way. Ashley Campbell saw this firsthand, touring with her father, Glen, as he persevered through the later stages of Alzheimer’s.

In her inspiring presentation, Ashley shares how music enabled her father to preserve intellectual functioning longer than his doctors ever expected. How, even in the most advanced and immobilizing stages of the disease, a favorite song would find him tapping his toes. Combining personal stories, science, and live performance, Ashley makes a moving — and highly entertaining — case for the healing power of music.

Our Project:
Building a Child Life Zone

Your impact

Proceeds from Words & Wisdom will support construction of our Child Life Zone, a state-of-the-art therapeutic play area inside the Children's Tower. A sanctuary. A place where kids can be kids.

The Zone will be staffed by the hospital’s child life specialists, certified professionals who help children and their families cope with medical challenges through play, education and self-expression. The unique amenities of the Child Life Zone include therapeutic craft and play centers with a high-tech electronic games wall, a multi-use theater and interactive broadcast studio and a kitchen and eating area.

"When children have opportunities to play and explore, it can lower their stress levels and regulate their emotions, putting them in a better place mentally and emotionally to recover. As Fred Rogers said, 'it’s the things we play with and the people who help us play that make a great difference in our lives.'"
